Hispano Suiza brings 110 years of motoring history to Madrid Grand Prix weekend

Visitors heading to MADRING for this weekend’s Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix will find more than modern racing machinery around the circuit, with Hispano Suiza putting more than a century of Spanish motoring heritage on display.

The historic marque will be bringing nine vehicles to the event, with eight of them being from its past creating a timeline stretching from 1912 to the present day. The collection will be part of an exhibition organised by CarDesign.es with Fever and MADRING, featuring around 60 vehicles in total.

The historic cars will be displayed in the Marca España area of Fan Zone E2, while the latest Hispano Suiza, the Carmen Sagrera, will appear in Fan Zone A alongside hypercars and competition-inspired machines.

Among the earliest cars is the 1912 Alfonso XIII, named after the Spanish king and regarded as one of the first series-produced sports cars. It is joined by the 1922 Rabassada, a lightweight competition-focused car associated with Barcelona’s demanding hillclimb, and the 1924 H6C Boulogne, which reflects Hispano Suiza’s growing reputation on the international racing scene.

Competition has been part of the company’s identity since its early years. Hispano Suiza competed in events including the Copa Catalunya and achieved an early international victory at the Mont Ventoux hillclimb in France in 1909. Its racing successes at Boulogne-sur-Mer in the early 1920s further established the marque as a serious performance manufacturer.

The collection eventually reaches 2024 and the Carmen Sagrera, an electric hypercar unveiled to mark Hispano Suiza’s 120th anniversary. Handcrafted in Barcelona, it brings the company’s emphasis on performance and exclusivity into an era of electrification.
