West End Arts Library opens in Westminster
The West End Arts Library has officially opened, offering a unique resource in art and design, performing arts, and music, as well as offering a new destination for the capital’s “vibrant arts and cultural landscape.”
Situated between Leicester Square and the National Gallery, the West End Arts Library is located in a Grade II listed building that was once home to Isaac Newton. The library is the West End’s only specialist arts public library, now hosting Westminster’s Music Library, a “treasure trove for music lovers,” as well as an extensive loan collection of books, scores, performance parts, and sheet music.
In the wider library, visitors will find curated collections in art and design, music, and performing arts, offering a “valuable resource” to actors, musicians, interior designers, town planners, students, and “anyone passionate about these disciplines.”
To mark the opening of the West End Arts Library, a special exhibition from the Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation and an interactive workshop on Afrobeats/Ndombolo organised by CheriCoco was held. Library staff were on hand to showcase some of the unique resources held by the library.
There will be a programme of events and exhibitions all year-round, including free classical music concerts every week. The multi-purpose exhibition space will also be a platform for innovative exhibitions and events.
The library’s extensive catalogue is available online for anyone to search and reserve items. More information on upcoming events and services can be found here.
