Silvertown Tunnel plans to open on 7th April
TfL and Rilverlinx Limited, the consortium responsible for the new Silvertown Tunnel have confirmed that it is planned to open on, 7th April. New bus routes serving the tunnel will be free for at least a year, launching on the same day. The introduction of these new buses will, according to TfL, increase the hourly number of buses able to cross the river in the area from six to 21, allowing more residents to benefit from it.
With the construction work on the Silvertown Tunnel coming to an end, work is set to get underway to install infrastructure to support zero-emission busses that will serve the tunnel. This will include a new cycle-shuttle service under the river. New shelters and cycle racks for the service will be installed soon for the service.
The Silvertown Tunnel is also within the Ultra Low Emission Zone and TfL says it will support economic growth, allowing it to more than triple the number of buses crossing the river during peak times.
