Bentley Torcal brings 888 PS and 375-mile range to its first electric model
Bentley has unveiled the Torcal, its first fully electric model, combining up to 888 PS with a claimed range of 375 miles and a new approach to luxury SUV design. The five-metre-long SUV is being presented as a template for future Bentleys, with the company putting equal emphasis on performance, comfort, technology, and materials. It launches in two versions, with the standard model producing 821 PS and 1,194 Nm of torque, while the Torcal S develops up to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm when Launch Control is activated.
The Bentley Torcal S can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and reach 162 mph, while the core model takes 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and has a 155 mph top speed. Both versions use two permanent-magnet synchronous motors and an 800V battery with 113 kWh of net capacity. The battery carries a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
Charging is another headline figure. Bentley says the Torcal can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just under 20 minutes using a 400 kW charger, with seven minutes adding around 100 miles of range.
Underneath, the electric Bentley gets fully active suspension for the first time, adaptive two-valve dampers and standard electronic all-wheel steering. Rear wheels can turn by up to five degrees, helping reduce the turning circle to 11.1 metres.
Inside, standard seats have 16-way adjustment, heating, ventilation, adjustable bolsters and massage. The rear three-seat arrangement also introduces power folding to a Bentley for the first time.
The technology extends to 25 radars, sensors and cameras supporting driving and parking assistance, while remote parking, augmented-reality head-up display and facial recognition are among the available features.
Bentley has also taken an unusual approach to the electric car’s sound. Rather than simply reproducing an artificial engine note, its Dynamic Symphony uses recordings of real instruments, including drums, viola and bass guitar, to create an evolving soundtrack linked to vehicle speed and torque demand.
Material choices include a new 100 per cent Merino wool automotive fabric developed with Somerset company Fox Brothers, certified under the Responsible Wool Standard.
The Torcal therefore marks a significant change in Bentley’s propulsion technology without abandoning the company’s traditional focus on craftsmanship, comfort and high-performance grand touring.
