The BBC will bring the FIA World Rally Championship back to UK audiences under a new three-year agreement covering the 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons. The deal will give viewers access to live stages from every WRC round, alongside highlights programmes and digital content across BBC platforms. Coverage will be delivered jointly by BBC Scotland, BBC Cymru Wales and BBC Northern Ireland, bringing the BBC’s Nations together for the championship.
For rally fans, the package will include selected live stages from every round, including the decisive Wolf Power Stage, as well as 60-minute highlights programmes covering each event. The coverage will be available through BBC iPlayer, with digital rights allowing clips, highlights and additional material to appear across other BBC platforms.
One of the biggest features of the agreement will be coverage of Rally Scotland. The new Aberdeenshire-based event is due to make its WRC debut in 2027, with the BBC planning extensive live coverage across all four days of competition.
The rally will also represent a significant moment for the UK championship calendar. It will be the first time a round of the WRC has been held in Britain since 2019, although the 2027 calendar itself has yet to be announced.
The return of the championship will give British audiences a chance to follow the latest generation of rally cars tackling very different environments, from snow and ice to gravel and asphalt. The combination of speed, mechanical technology and endurance makes rallying a distinctly different challenge from circuit racing, with drivers and co-drivers having to manage changing surfaces and conditions throughout an event.
The BBC agreement also places the new Rally Scotland firmly within the broadcaster’s wider coverage of the championship. With live stages, highlights and digital material available through the BBC, the WRC will have a regular presence across television and online platforms for three consecutive seasons.
Further details of the 2027 WRC calendar are expected to be announced in the near future.
