All lines through the area have been blocked while responders deal with the situation, leading to severe disruption for passengers travelling between East Anglia and London.

Services to and from Norwich have been affected, with trains cancelled, delayed or diverted across parts of the route.

Rail operator Greater Anglia said passengers holding its tickets may use C2C services between London Fenchurch Street and Southend Central as an alternative while the disruption continues.

It is not yet known when services will resume as normal.
