Londoners will be able to learn CPR and cardiac arrest response skills when the London Ambulance Service hosts a free public open day beside the London Eye on 21 August.
Running from 11am to 4pm during the summer holidays, the event is designed to help families and visitors learn what to do if someone’s heart stops beating. Alongside practical demonstrations, visitors will be able to meet specialist ambulance teams and explore how emergency crews respond across the capital.
Associate Community Resuscitation Trainer Julie Whitehead, who is organising the event, said the day combines hands-on learning with activities aimed at helping people gain confidence in life-saving skills.
Visitors will have the opportunity to practise simple cardiac arrest response techniques and learn more about specialist units within the service. Teams attending include the Hazardous Area Response Team, which treats patients in dangerous environments such as water or at height, and the Cycle Response Unit, whose paramedics use bicycles to reach patients quickly through busy streets while an ambulance is on the way.
The event will also feature vehicles and equipment from the London Ambulance Service Historic Collection, including historic ambulances and medical kits that reflect the service’s long history in the capital.
The open day is supported through London Lifesavers, which is funded by the London Ambulance Charity. Visitors can also find out more about the charity’s Heart Starters campaign, which helps fund additional defibrillators.
The event takes place in front of the London Eye between the gift shop and Belvedere Road. Further information is available from the London Ambulance Service and the London Ambulance Charity.
