City commuters hit by Metropolitan line closure between Baker Street and Aldgate
A Metropolitan line closure to Aldgate will continue until 9 November, causing a week of disruption for City of London passengers who rely on this stretch of the route for daily commuting. Transport for London said the section between Baker Street and Aldgate would stay shut while engineers repair a track fault identified at Baker Street.
Services on the rest of the Metropolitan line will run, although TfL has warned of minor delays. The affected section is an important link into the Square Mile, so passengers are being advised to use alternative lines serving the City.

A TfL spokesperson said travellers should allow more time for their journeys. “Our engineers are working to complete the repairs as quickly as possible. We apologise to customers who are travelling into the City and will keep people updated throughout the week.”
Alternative routes into the City
Passengers heading to Aldgate and the eastern edge of the City are being directed to switch at Baker Street for Circle or Hammersmith & City line services, which continue to serve the City. The Jubilee line from Baker Street or Finchley Road is also available for those travelling further south.
TfL has asked passengers to check live information before travelling using the Journey Planner and to avoid peak services where possible.
The closure highlights how even short stretches of the Underground can have an outsized impact on the City, where thousands of workers and visitors rely on fast interchanges between mainline stations and Aldgate.
