Royal Albert Hall announces Star Wars original trilogy concert weekender for 50th anniversary celebrations
The Royal Albert Hall will host its first-ever Star Wars in Concert Weekender in April and May 2027, giving fans the chance to watch all three films from the original trilogy with live performances from the London Symphony Orchestra.
Running from 29 April to 2 May 2027, the four-day event will feature two screenings of each film from the original trilogy. Audiences will be able to experience Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi accompanied live by the orchestra that recorded the original film soundtracks. The weekender has been announced as part of celebrations marking 50 years since A New Hope first arrived in cinemas in 1977.
The popularity of film scores performed live at the venue has been evident in recent productions, including the Hall’s presentation of Gladiator with live orchestral accompaniment. The Royal Albert Hall remains one of the capital’s best-known venues for major cultural events, alongside annual audience favourites that generate strong public demand for tickets across London.
John Williams’ Star Wars score remains one of the most recognisable pieces of film music ever written. Alongside Star Wars, Williams is known for composing music for films including Jaws, E.T., Superman, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park and Harry Potter.
The announcement follows the sold-out Lord of the Rings Weekenders taking place at the Royal Albert Hall this May, reflecting continued demand for large-scale film screenings accompanied by live orchestral performances.
Since its debut in 1977, Star Wars has become one of cinema’s most influential franchises, known for its science-fiction storytelling, memorable characters and groundbreaking visual effects.
The event also continues the Royal Albert Hall’s long-running Films in Concert programme, which launched in 2009 and has brought live orchestral performances to films ranging from The Godfather and Breakfast at Tiffany’s to Interstellar, Skyfall and Jurassic Park.
