North Kensington Residents Celebrate New Playground as Community Hub Opens on Longlands Estate

Residents of North Kensington’s Longlands Estate are celebrating the opening of a brand-new Kensington playground, transforming an old, worn-down area into an exciting community space. The £57,000 renovation, funded by Section 106 contributions from developers, marks a significant improvement, bringing much-needed new facilities to the local community.

The upgraded playground now boasts a range of exciting KOMPAN equipment, including a tower set with a tumble and talk tunnel, a climbing net, and a slide. Children can also enjoy a spinner bowl, climbing block, new swings, and a pony seesaw, all chosen by residents to cater to kids of all ages and spark creative play. The selections reflect the community’s input, highlighting the importance of resident engagement in the transformation of local spaces.

The official opening on Monday, 9th September, was a festive event, with face painting and games adding to the excitement as families gathered to celebrate. The occasion not only marked the unveiling of the new play area but also served as a testament to the community spirit of Longlands Estate.

This renovation is part of the Council’s broader commitment to estate improvements, aiming to create safe, welcoming spaces for residents to gather and play. The playground’s redesign exemplifies the power of community involvement, showcasing how residents’ voices can shape the development of local amenities.

Local parents and children alike have praised the new facilities, calling them a “fantastic addition” to the estate. The revitalised playground offers a secure environment for children to explore, while also providing a much-needed communal space where neighbours can connect and build a stronger community.

With this project completed, the Council is already looking ahead to future improvements and is eager to hear more ideas from residents on how to enhance the estate further. For those who missed the opening, the playground is now open to the public, providing a daily reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together. As the Council continues its commitment to estate improvements, residents are encouraged to share their ideas for future upgrades.
