Tottenham Court Road becomes London’s busiest Tube station after rise in Elizabeth line passengers

Tottenham Court Road has become the busiest London Underground station after a major rise in passenger numbers linked to the Elizabeth line. New TfL figures show 63.4 million passengers used the station during 2025. Tottenham Court Road connects the Northern line, Central line, and Elizabeth line, and has seen some of the biggest increases in ridership since the Elizabeth line opened.

TfL says it has also been working to reduce staff sickness and absence rates across the network as passenger demand continues to rise. The latest passenger figures also arrive during a period of continued disruption linked to industrial action affecting several Underground lines.

The figures were released through a Freedom of Information request and are based on actual entry and exit taps across the network. Separate TfL station data still places King’s Cross St Pancras and Waterloo ahead overall when National Rail connections are included, with Tottenham Court Road ranked third by that measurement.

Bond Street was the busiest Elizabeth line station during 2025 with 42.4 million passengers recorded across the year. Canary Wharf remained the busiest DLR station with 6.1 million passengers, while Shepherd’s Bush was the most-used London Overground station with 6.7 million users.

At the opposite end of the network, Roding Valley on the Central line in Essex recorded the lowest Underground passenger numbers. Iver was the quietest station on the Elizabeth line. The figures also showed Brixton station stop P was London’s busiest bus stop last year, recording 4.1 million passengers. East Croydon remained the busiest tram stop, while Canary Wharf was the most-used Uber Boat pier with around 400,000 passengers.

TfL said investment in new trains, signalling improvements and digital journey planning tools would continue across the transport network as passenger numbers grow.
