TfL warns Tube passengers of disruption on 2 and 4 June as RMT strike action goes ahead
TfL is warning passengers travelling on 2 and 4 June to check before setting off after planned strike action by Tube drivers is expected to disrupt parts of the London Underground network. The industrial action, involving drivers in the RMT union, is part of an ongoing dispute over proposed voluntary four-day working arrangements for Tube drivers.
The warning comes as TfL continues wider work to improve day-to-day travel across London, including recent plans to expand safer walking and wheeling crossings across the capital. The disruption also arrives as TfL prepares for heavier passenger demand across the network during a busy summer period for travel and major city events.
Transport for London says drivers would not be required to move away from existing five-day working patterns and insists the proposal is entirely optional, but the union has chosen to proceed with another round of strike action.
If the strikes go ahead, no service is expected on the Circle line, Piccadilly line, the Metropolitan line between Baker Street and Aldgate, and the Central line between White City and Liverpool Street. TfL says other lines are expected to continue operating, although services are likely to run at reduced levels and could start later or finish earlier than normal.
Passengers should expect limited services before 6.30am and are advised to complete journeys by 9pm.
The transport authority says it ran around half of normal services during April’s industrial action and is aiming to deliver a similar level of service, or better, during next week’s disruption. More than half of normal Tube demand, it said, was recorded on every day of the previous strike period, rising to 94% of normal demand on Friday 24 April, the final day of action.
TfL also said a significant number of drivers have expressed support for progressing a pilot on the Bakerloo line.
Passengers are being advised to check the TfL Go app or the TfL website before travelling.
