Pizzeria serving cocaine raided by German police
Police have conducted a raid on a pizzeria in western Germany, following allegations that the establishment served customers cocaine alongside their orders for a specific pizza. Authorities were alerted to the scheme in March by food inspectors, prompting drug squad officers to monitor the pizzeria.
During an operation to detain the 36-year-old manager at his apartment, he reportedly threw a bag of drugs out of the window, which landed directly in the hands of the waiting police officers. A subsequent search uncovered a significant haul: 1.6kg of cocaine, 400g of cannabis, and €268,000 in cash.
Despite his initial arrest, the manager was released just days later and quickly reopened the pizzeria, continuing to offer the controversial pizza-drug combination. This prompted investigators to dig deeper into the drug supply chain linked to the pizzeria, ultimately leading to the dismantling of a broader drug ring in the region.
In a series of coordinated raids weeks later, around 150 officers targeted two cannabis plantations—one located in Mönchengladbach, which housed 300 plants, and another in Solingen, where 60 plants were discovered. The police also executed searches at the homes and businesses of 12 suspects, resulting in the arrests of three individuals, including a 22-year-old believed to be the leader of the operation. Authorities also confiscated weapons, cash, and luxury watches during these raids.
The pizzeria manager was rearrested while attempting to leave the country and currently remains in custody. The investigation revealed that the “number 40” pizza was one of the restaurant’s top sellers, adding a bizarre twist to the unfolding saga. Police have yet to disclose the identities of other individuals involved in the operation or the price of the pizza and cocaine pairing.
