Boycott of Tesla gains traction in Germany amid Musk meddling

A boycott of Tesla has gained traction in Germany following Elon Musk’s meddling in its politics, as well as his support of the far-right AfD party. Analysts and Tesla followers have suggested that Musk’s behaviour on social media are affecting sales of the electric car firm, which fell last year for the first time in a decade.

It is however, difficult to find a direct link between the two, though there is some evidence of Musk behind responsible for a fall in Tesla sales.

Rossmann, a German company that runs one of the biggest pharmacy sales in the Europe, had begun to electrify its corporate car fleet. It had previously used Tesla to do so but recently announced that it would sell its Tesla cars and switch to other electric vehicle (EV) brands.

The firm specifically said that “incompatibility between the statements of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the values that Tesla represents with its products” as being its reason for the change.

Musk has recently made comments on German politics including the promotion of AfD, a far-right party that has been called an “extremist organisation” with many of its members accused of promoting neo-Nazi ideology. Musk urged Germans to vote for the AfD in elections.

This, and his promotion of misinformation on X, formerly known as Twitter, have led to a boycott of the social media platform by over 60 academic organisations in Germany and Austria. It’s possible that this boycott is extending to Tesla cars.
