TfL Pride audio tour celebrates LGBTQIA+ stories across London stations
Transport for London has launched a new Pride audio tour that explores LGBTQIA+ perspectives through artworks across the capital’s transport network. Available throughout Pride month, the free experience takes visitors to stations including Bethnal Green, Notting Hill Gate and St James’s Park while sharing personal reflections connected to the featured works.
Produced by Art on the Underground in collaboration with OUTbound, TfL’s inclusive staff network, the tour offers a different way to experience public art across London while highlighting stories from colleagues and communities connected to the artworks.
One of the featured stops extends beyond the Underground network to Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth commission. The installation includes the faces of 726 trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people and forms part of the wider journey explored through the audio guide.
Dr Debbie Weekes-Bernard, London’s Deputy Mayor for Communities and Social Justice, said the tour is a valuable way of bringing stories from both TfL colleagues and the wider community to life during Pride month.
The project also continues TfL’s wider programme of cultural experiences across the network, following initiatives that have brought art and literature into stations and public spaces throughout the city.
Emma Strain of TfL said she was proud to help share LGBTQIA+ stories with customers through the new audio experience.
TfL has also advised passengers to expect central London to be busier than usual during London Pride on 4 July. People attending the parade or events around Trafalgar Square and Soho are encouraged to travel via Bond Street, Charing Cross, Embankment, Leicester Square, Oxford Circus, Tottenham Court Road or Victoria stations.
The Pride audio tour is available free of charge until the end of the month through the official Art on the Underground website.
