Golborne Canalside Health Centre opens at Kelso Cochrane House in North Kensington
A new NHS health centre has opened in North Kensington, bringing expanded GP services, community health facilities, and employment support together under one roof as part of the wider Kelso Cochrane House redevelopment. The Golborne Canalside Health Centre has relocated from its previous home on Golborne Road to a purpose-built facility on Kensal Road, forming part of the Kelso Cochrane House development, which has already delivered 38 new homes for council tenants and key workers.
Developed through collaboration between the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, NHS partners, and local residents, the new centre has been designed to expand access to primary healthcare while creating additional space for community activities focused on prevention and wellbeing.
Patients will continue to receive GP services alongside access to nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, health coaches, and other specialist NHS professionals. The larger facility is also expected to accommodate additional permanent GPs as demand grows.
The building includes a dedicated community area known as the Village Square, where health-focused activities such as exercise sessions, coffee mornings, and wellbeing events are planned. Council employment advisers will also provide practical support for residents seeking work, including CV guidance, interview preparation, and confidence coaching, reflecting a broader approach that links health with employment and social wellbeing.
One of the centre’s new features is a self-monitoring health zone, allowing patients to check indicators including blood pressure and weight without needing a clinical appointment. The aim is to help residents identify potential health issues earlier and encourage preventative healthcare.
Local patients also played a role in shaping the building’s design. Artwork by North Kensington artist Cordelia Cembrowicz is displayed throughout the centre, while natural design features have been incorporated to create a calmer environment for visitors.
The opening marks another stage in the long-term regeneration of Kelso Cochrane House, where community facilities were reintroduced following consultation with local residents during the redevelopment process.
The health centre will serve existing and new patients across North Kensington as services begin operating from the new location.
