Traffic returns to A40 Westway as repairs complete
“Vital” repair work to the A40 Westway in both directions between the Westway roundabout and Marylebone flyover have completed, allowing the road to reopen to traffic on 21st April 2026.
The road is one of the busiest in London’s road network with as many as 96,000 vehicles using it every day, according to TfL. To keep it and the surrounding road network “running safely and reliably,” TfL says the works and closures were planned to “minimise disruption as much as possible.”
Parts of the structure reached the end of their service life. TfL and its partners carried out renewal works for multiple years, ensuring that those using the road have “safe and reliable journeys.” This involved replacing two joints on the Marylebone Flyover A40 Westway, allowing the road to safely expand and contract with temperature changes and traffic movement.
The closure had also been used to complete other works, reducing the need for further work and disruption. Tis includes resurfacing over a kilometre of carriageway in both directions as well as drainage maintenance.
Small-scale weekend works will take place to carry out further improvements. These are set to begin on Friday 24th April, taking place over four weekends, finishing in June, a month ahead of schedule. These will be “much more localised” compared with the full closure, TfL says.
