Alpine A110 sculpture previews the design of its next-generation sports car
Alpine has offered its clearest visual statement yet about the third generation of the A110, unveiling a sculpture that brings the future sports car’s design language into view without revealing the finished car itself.
Presented as an artistic study, the sculpture uses a blue veil stretched across a sculpted form to suggest the proportions and surfaces of the next A110. Beneath it are cues that connect the future model to both the original A110 Berlinette and the current generation, while giving the familiar shape a more contemporary interpretation.
The sculpture is intended to show how Alpine’s designers are balancing heritage with the technical demands of a new generation. A pronounced stance, muscular wheel arches, a low rear section and a teardrop-shaped cabin are among the elements suggested through the draped form. The design also hints at a V-shaped front treatment and Alpine’s distinctive dual-light signature.
The blue fabric has its own design reference. Alpine says it represents a moment of tension as wind catches a surface, reflecting the importance of aerodynamics and lightness to a sports car. The designers also drew inspiration from Concorde and the instant when the aircraft broke through the sound barrier, using that frozen moment as a metaphor for concentrated energy.
Underneath the artistic presentation is Alpine’s new Alpine Performance Platform, or APP, which will underpin the third-generation A110. The platform was introduced earlier this year as part of Renault Group’s FutuREady plan.
The technology has already appeared in public in development form. An A110 FUTURE development mule ran at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, using modified current-generation bodywork stretched around the larger APP platform.
The sculpture will be displayed on Alpine’s stand at the Paris Motor Show from 12 October, giving visitors their first opportunity to see how the marque is translating its design heritage into the next A110.
