Rail and tube fairs to rise in March
TfL is remining Londoners about changes to rail and tube fairs set to come in from 1st March 2026. All bus and tram fares, it added, will remain frozen until July.
As previously announced, the government’s £2.2 billion multi-year funding deal for TfL, agreed in the Spending Review in July last year, contained an exception that TfL would rise by inflation plus 1%. However, as an “emergency cost-of-living measure,” the Mayor of London has decided to use City Hall budgets to help Londoners by freezing bus and tram fares until 5th July, meaning that only rail and tube services will increase.
Unlimited journeys within an hour within the capital’s buses and trams will continue to be just £1.75 thanks to the Mayor’s Hopper Fare. Had bus fares increased with inflation since 2016, TfL says they would be £2.35 today, but thanks to previous fare freezes over the last decade, they continue to be 60p less than they would have been. The price of Travelcards will also be frozen until March 2027, and daily as well as weekly caps will remain unchanged.
Tube fares within Zones 1-6 will increase by 10p, while Elizabeth line fares from Zone 1 to Heathrow will rise from £13.90 to £15.50. The free bus travel on the SL4, 108, and 129, will be extended until 26th May 2026. This was made separately to the rail and tube fare changes.
Cross-river journeys on the DLR from Greenwich / Cutty Sark to Island Gardens, and from Woolwich Arsenal to King George V will also be refunded until the end of 26th May 2026. This also affects cyclists looking to cross the river in off-peak hours.
