Everyone Active extends partnership with Westminster until 2029
Westminster City Council has signed a three-year contract extension with Everyone Active, allowing it to “continue to provide sports and leisure services” in Central London. The extension will run until June 2029, bringing in a £2 million investment to upgrade equipment and enhance all nine council leisure centres in the city.
Currently, Westminster City Council says, 40% of the borough’s children are overweight by the time they leave primary school. The new contract, it said, “signals the council’s ongoing commitment to improve health and wellbeing in the city, promote active lifestyles and increase opportunities for all residents, particularly young people, to be physically active.”
The first improvement project, refurbishing and extending the gym at Queen Mother Sports Centre, is already underway, providing more space and equipment to meet demand. Work will also begin at Little Venice and Paddington Recreation Ground in December 2025 including improvements to the aesthetics of the space and new equipment. Marshall Street, Porchester Spa, and Moberly will have similar upgrades from the new year, with the work aiming to finish by the summer of 2026.
Equipment and facilities at all of the borough’s leisure centres will continue to be improved over the coming years. These works will be spread out and scheduled to minimise disruption to residents and gym users.
Improvements will also include:
- Modernisation of leisure centre interiors, including reception areas and communal spaces.
- Upgrades to fitness equipment through a rolling replacement programme.
- Accessibility improvements, such as changing facilities and quiet spaces.
- Sustainability measures, including energy-efficient lighting
- Full gym refurbishment, including new gym kit, flooring and decoration at Paddington Recreation Ground and Little Venice Sports Centres
- Gym refreshes, including some new kit, flooring and decoration happening at Moberly and Porchester
Everyone Active and the council will provide £200,000 annually to introduce a Community Access Fund (CAF), The CAF will create opportunities for those who face barriers to accessing sports facilities. Westminster already offers some of the most affordable leisure pricing in London, including ActiveWestminster resident discounts of 30–40% and free swimming for eligible children and over-60s.
The Council is exploring further initiatives to expand access, targeted programmes and discounts including:
- Free swimming classes for children and offers for families during school holidays
- Disability focused activities and open days
- Free community group access at selected centres
