Writing competitions at Goldsmiths University

Goldsmiths University is holding multiple writing competitions for young people aged between 16 and 18 that “aim to uncover the next generation of writing talent.”

This, it says, is “the place for Young Writers and Young Podcasters.” Anyone looking to enter can do so for any or all of the three creative competitions that the university is holding.

First, there’s Young Writer, a thousand-word short story competition. This is supported by academic staff in Goldsmiths University’s Literary and Creative Studies.

Young Anthropologist, a one thousand word essay competition supported by the university’s academic staff from its Anthropology department.

New for 2026 is Young Podcaster. This is a three to five minute podcast competition, supported by Goldsmith University’s academic staff in Education and Lifelong Learning.

The deadline to register for all three competitions is Friday 17th April 2026. All witing competitions have a £500 first price, with the runner-up to receive a price of £100. Every shortlisted entry will also receive a small prize.

If you register, you will also be invited to an online workshop throughout the year, delivered by the university’s academics and alumni to “help you hone your writing and recording skills and learn from” Goldsmith University’s academic staff. You will also be given information about upcoming events from the university, resources, recommendations and opportunities “that will help your entry be the best it can be before submission.”
