Ruth Langsford Christmas Reflections as She Embraces a New Chapter

Ruth Langsford Christmas reflections this year centre on keeping family traditions intact while adjusting to life after her separation from Eamonn Holmes. The broadcaster, who confirmed the end of their 14-year marriage in May, says the festive season remains anchored in routine for the sake of her son Jack and her 94-year-old mother, Joan.

Langsford told Woman magazine that she still prepares stockings, decorates the house and organises games as she always has, describing Christmas as a way of creating “something magical” for her son, now 23, and maintaining familiarity for her mother. She said she “particularly misses” her father Dennis, who died ten years ago after living with dementia.

Rather than dwell on the end of her marriage, Langsford describes this period as the start of a new phase. “It’s about looking to the future and recognising a new chapter, a new beginning. It’s exciting,” she said.

She continues to appear on QVC and serves as a regular panellist on ITV’s Loose Women. Her schedule remains busy, and she says the momentum has helped her rebuild. “All I know is that I am happier than I’ve been in a long time with loads of fantastic opportunities. I am very grateful.”

When asked whether she might return to This Morning, she said she would be open to co-presenting with Rylan Clark if invited. “I love Rylan. He’s like my son, really. We adore each other, and we’ve worked together before, so who knows?”

Langsford has also spoken openly about the realities of caring for her elderly mother, who lives in a local care home. She says each Christmas feels significant, describing the time as “a privilege”, while acknowledging the uncertainty that comes with ageing. “I don’t know how many more Christmases she might have and I value every bit of time I have with her.”

During a recent discussion on Loose Women, she shared a light-hearted response to comments about men living longer when partnered. After panellist Myleene Klass noted that women often fare better health-wise on their own, Langsford laughed and replied: “Good to know!”

She appears on Richard Osman’s House of Games this week at 6pm on BBC Two, competing against Spencer Matthews, Rosie Ramsay and actor Nathan Bryon. For context on how dementia affects families, support and guidance can be found through the Alzheimer’s Society.
