Rockley Road closures as new walking & cycling links being built

“New and improved” crossing points on Shepherds Bush Green promise safer walking and cycling connections. Rockley Road will see temporary closures between 18th August and 15th September. Work is also underway to create a direct cycle route between Shepherds Bush tube station to the south of the borough.

The project hopes to make the area around Shepherds Bush Green more walkable and better for cyclists. New crossing points will be installed to “help manage crowds more safely,” for the “millions of people” who visit the area including the Westfield shopping centre.

“We’re improving the area around Shepherds Bush Green to help make H&F the best place to live, work and socialise,” Cllr Florian Chevoppe-Verdier, Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said. “Millions of people visit Westfield and our White City Innovation District every year. That’s why we’re working with Imperial College London to help clean our toxic air and create healthier ways to get around the borough.”

The work is part of Hammersmith & Fulham’s plan for cleaner air and to “help local people make healthier transport choices across the borough.” This includes a new pedestrian crossing east of Shepherds Bush Green and safety upgrades to the Rockley Road crossing, including wider pavements and better street lighting.

The improvements will create a new cycle route connecting Shepherds Bush tube station directly to Rockley Road via Shepherds Bush Green.

“It will give families and commuters a safe, direct way to cycle between north and south of the borough, something that’s been missing until now,” the council said in a press release.

Rockley Road will be temporarily closed from Monday 18 August to Monday 15 September. Clear diversions for residents and deliveries to West12 shopping centre will run via Shepherds Bush Road and Minford Gardens. All local shops and businesses will remain accessible throughout, with temporary traffic lights managing traffic and pedestrians safely during works.
