Multi-Use All Games Area opens in Battersea

A newly installed Multi-Use All Games Area and play space has opened on the Patmore Estate in Battersea, “bringing fresh opportunities for residents and young people in the community,” according to Wandsworth Council. To celebrate its opening, a community event was held with a range of activities including face painting, arts and crafts, and basketball and football sessions.
The event celebrated “not only the transformation of a physical space, but the potential it holds for community development, youth engagement, and long-term skills and employment pathways.”
Sport can be a gateway to wider life skills for many young people, as well as helping their confidence and, in some cases, even their careers. One local resident who began playing basketball on the estate’s old court has since developed the leadership, teamwork, and communication skills that have led to employment and mentoring roles.
The investment in the Multi-Use All Games Area and play area “reflects a broader commitment to creating environments where young people can thrive” as part of the Homes for Wandsworth programme, one of the most ambitious council home building programmes in London.
“We know that a good home is the foundation for a good life,” the council says. “Every council home built is a family off waiting lists and into secure and comfortable tenancies.”
This new space complements its Year of Play, a year-long programme designed to make the borough “the best place for children to grow, explore and enjoy the freedom of play.” The Year of Play is guided by the council’s Play Strategy and aims to create inclusive, high-quality play opportunities in every neighbourhood, ensuring all children can enjoy enriching experiences close to home.
