Luce name and interior revealed for first Ferrari EV
Ferrari has revealed the interior of the Luce, its first ever EV, calling it “the start of a new chapter” in the firm’s history. The full car will be revealed in May but the interior, designed by iPhone designer Jony Ive, has been revealed.
Little is known about the Ferrari Luce, but according to Autocar, it will be a four-door, four-seat GT with up to 1,000bhp from a quad electric motor set-up. Initially dubbed the Elettrica during its development, the production car’s name has been revealed, coming from the Italian for light source and a colloquial word for electricity. According to Ferrari boss, Benedetto Vigna, the name refers to the car “lighting the future of the company.”
The interior and exterior have been developed by design company, LoveFrom, part-founded by former Apple design chief, Ive. Ive was responsible for overseeing the design of the iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and Apple Watch, and the user interface of the iOS operating system.
Despite this, the interior of the Luce makes use of physical controls, as opposed to a touchscreen replacing everything, though the iPhone was said to have influenced touchscreens, Ive says he would “never” use exclusively touchscreens for interior controls “because it requires you to look” away from the road.
