East London to get new ambulance facilities
London Ambulance Service is building new ambulance facilities in East London to “meet the needs of a growing population,” and “ensure that the care it provides to the area’s growing population is fit for the future.”
When completed, the East London Campus, thanks to over £22 million of capital investment, will “lead the way” to provide “outstanding emergency care” to the population, as well as providing “the best facilities” for its staff to work from.
The Canning Town development will include a new modern ambulance station, a base for specialist paramedics who look after patients during disasters and terrorist attacks, a new facility for ambulances to be prepared and stocked for a shift, and a new hub for servicing the vehicles.
This, the service says, will allow it to “expand its fleet of new ambulances and increase the number of paramedics out on the road” and address the “growing demand for emergency and urgent healthcare.”
Since 2022, the population of East London has grown by 36.4%, making it one of England’s fastest-growing areas. This trend is expected to continue over the coming years. The area has seen improvements to its transport links, such as the arrival of the Elizabeth Line, as well as investments in infrastructure and planned housing developments.
The East Campus development is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
