Chrysler recalls thousands of Jeep hybrids over fire risk

Chrysler is recalling over 320,000 plug-in-hybrid Jeeps over a faulty battery that could malfunction and lead to a fire, the American traffic safety regulator has revealed. Chrysler says it is aware of 19 reports and one injury that could potentially be related to the issue.

The American car maker is owned by the Dutch-based Stellantis, which also owns Vauxhall, Opel, Peugeot, Citroen, and Fiat.

Owners of the 228,221 Wranglers made between 2020-25 and 91,844 Grand Cherokee models between 2022 and 2026 are advised to park their cars outside and far from any structures until a solution can be determined. Those who own the plug-in-hybrid models are also advised to not charge their vehicles, according to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Agency (NHTSA).

Notification letters are expected to be posted out to the owners of the vehicles by 2nd December 2025 and additional letters will also be mailed to them when the final remedy has been made available.

Owners can also contact Chrysler customer service or look up their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA. Cars that had been previously recalled for the same issue in the past will need to have the fix performed, the NHTSA has said.

The affected batteries were manufactured by Samsung SDI America in Auburn Hills Michigan.
