Cattle to be released for rewilding project
Cattle are set to be released on a London site for a large-scale urban rewilding project on a large-scale. Three Sussex cows will be release into Tolworth Court Farm Fields in south-west London as part of the Wild Tolworth rewilding project.
The scheme is in a partnership with Kingston Council, Citizen Zoo, and The Community Brain. The cattle, they say, will be free to roam, says the group which has also worked to restore wetlands to the site.
“It’s about building resilience to a changing climate, reconnecting people with the living world, and creating something local communities can feel proud of every time they pass by,” Citizen Zoo said in a statement.
The site of 42 hectares used to be home for wildlife including skylarks, lapwings, and bullfinches. It has undergone restoration in the hopes of encouraging wildlife to return to the are around the Hogsmill River.
“What was just a dream five years ago is now becoming a reality with the new wetlands already demonstrating their massive impact and now cattle coming onto the site,” The Community Brain.
