Air Cadets twins raise money for school & nursery in Peru
Two Fulham twins from the local RAF Air Cadets Squadron are raising money to build a school and a nursey in Peru. Amelia and Matilda Buttler will travel nearly 10,000km from home to build the school for children in a remote South American valley in the summer, for a project that will improve access to education for around 100 children.
The 15-year-olds from from Lady Margaret School, in Parsons Green went through a challenging London-wide selection to join the expedition as part of a group of 31 Air Cadets heading to Peru. Amelia and Matilda will be the youngest in the group.
“It is a chance to make a real impact in the local community by helping build a school in a remote valley an hour away from Cusco, in South Peru,” explains Amelia, a GCSE student who hopes to eventually study aeronautical engineering.
The project is expected to help as many as a hundred children who would otherwise need to travel for hours to reach the next school.
Through their Air Cadets squadron, the paid have already taken part in a number of community activities since joining in 2023.
These include selling poppies at Queens Park Rangers FC’s stadium each November, and getting involved in local events like Remembrance Day at the Fulham War Memorial and H&F’s VE Day commemoration in Ravenscourt Park.
