Vaping ban in pubs considered
The government has issued an update on the potential of a vaping ban in pubs across the UK. A ban on selling single-use vapes was brought in last summer. The Tobacco and Vapes Bill, submitted last year for parliamentary approval, hopes to create a “smokefree generation” by preventing the future sale of tobacco to anyone born after 1st January 2009.
In November it passed through the House of Lords committee stage, currently being in the repot stage before it goes through a third and final reading in the House of Lords. After that, it will enter the final two stages, including a consideration of amendment and a royal assent.
The bill would allow the government to introduce a vaping ban in pubs and other enclosed public places in an extension to laws about smoking.
“The Tobacco and Vapes Bill gives the Government powers to make most public places and workplaces that are smoke-free also vape-free”, health minister Ashley Dalton said. “We plan to consult on making most indoor settings, that are subject to existing smoke-free legislation, vape-free. This would include inside pubs and other hospitality venues.”
Many pubs across the country have already introduced bans on vaping but this new law would make it a legal requirement nationwide. The upcoming disposable vapes ban, many fear, could have a “limited impact” on the amount of people who use vapes, some researchers have warned, with doctors expressing fears over the large amount of vaping among children around the world.
