Production at JLR to restart following cyber attack

Production at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is expected to restart this week after a major cyber-attack forced it to shut down its factories and send workers home. JLR’s engine factory Iin Wolverhampton will be the first to resume production but the firm says that it may be a few weeks before all operations run at full capacity, as it returns gradually.
Three JLR sites in the West Midlands and Merseyside had been suspended following the cyber-attack at the end of August, which forced a shutdown of the company. Its suppliers would welcome the news of a return to production as many of them, being smaller businesses, have been under financial pressure.
The government announced recently that it would underwrite a £1.5 billion loan guarantee to the company in its bid to support its parts and service suppliers. Some had little to no money for over month, while still needing to pay the bills.
Genex UK is a small company which presses metal parts. Its managing director told the BBC that 18 members of staff had to be laid off due to the cash shortage.
JLR says it will continue to investigate the attack which affected almost every aspect of its business, meaning that it can not build or sell any cars or distribute parts to its service centres.
Aside from its sites in the UK, its factories in Slovakia, China, and India were also affected. It is believed to have cost JLR at least £50 million every week due to lost production.
