Grief support services in Richmond upon Thames

Grief is something that just about everyone will experience at some point in their life. But it is “often a private, unspoken journey,” local charity, Kew Neighbourhood Association says.
The charity offers advice “about easing the quiet weight” of grieving and “finding connection when you need it most. It may ebb and flow, some days are gentler, others unexpectedly raw.”
Here are a few of its suggestions that might support you or someone you know:
- Allow your feelings: There is no right way to grieve. Some people cry, some feel numb, others feel angry or lost. All of it is valid
- Take your time: Grief is not something to get over. It changes with us, and it’s okay to move at your own pace
- Connect with others: Sharing your story, even briefly, can help lift the sense of isolation. Whether it’s a neighbour, a friend, or a support volunteer — connection can be healing
- Be kind to yourself: Eat regularly, rest when you can, and speak gently to yourself. Grief can be tiring; you deserve care
- Seek support if you need it: You don’t have to do this alone. There are people and services that understand and are here to help
In moments of grief, having someone to talk to can mean everything. Kew Neighbourhood Association offers free support to people in Kew, including the comfort of companionship, thanks to their kind and committed volunteers.
If you’d like to speak to someone trained to support people through loss, Space2Grieve offers free, one-to-one bereavement support for residents in the borough. Whether you’re newly bereaved or still struggling months or years later, their kind and experienced volunteers can listen and walk beside you.
