Electrical Fixing workshop coming to Richmond
Action West London (AWL) is launching a free Electrical Fixing training workshop on 11th December, aimed at helping “unemployed individuals with valuable, hands-on repair skills.” The initiative will also tackle the “growing issue” of electronic waste by encouraging the donation and reuse of small electrical items, Richmond Council said.
The council hailed the project as being “designed to be a win-win for the community,” with donations of unwanted but fixable small electrical items, including kettles, toasters, and lamps, set to be used as training materials for all those who take part in the Electrical Fixing workshop. After they are repaired, the items will then be donated to local charities to help benefit those in need.
The free half-day and in-person workshop will be run by “expert fixers” from organisations such as Fixing Factory, who will be on hand to provide participants with practical skills such as troubleshooting, repair, and identifying which items are salvageable.
The program will also provide a Level 1 certification in repair and PAT testing, a qualification that can significantly boost employment prospects.
