Charing Cross Hospital murder investigation after patient, 85, dies
A Charing Cross Hospital murder investigation has been launched after 85-year-old Andrew Farmer from Ealing died a week after an alleged assault by another patient. Officers were called to the Hammersmith hospital on 18 September. Mr Farmer was found seriously injured and died on 25 September.
A 70-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was earlier charged with grievous bodily harm. He is next due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on 17 October. Detectives say enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Paying tribute, Mr Farmer’s partner Paul Wrigley said: “My partner through thick and thin for 60 years. Now sadly missed. An Oxford first, whatever he touched, he touched deeply – opera, Devon topography, the underprivileged.” He added: “Scholarly but with a wry sense of humour. Rest now, my dear friend.”
Detective Inspector Kirsten Hadleigh, who is leading the case, said: “Our thoughts remain with Andrew’s family and friends at this undoubtedly difficult time. We remain in close contact with Andrew’s loved ones and are keeping them up to date with the progress of our investigation.”
