‘Babies on Board’ badge introduced by TfL

TfL is launching a new ‘Babies on Board’ badge alongside its ‘Baby on Board’ badge which celebrates its 20th anniversary. The new badge will be a new option for those who are carrying multiple babies.

The all-new ‘Babies on Board’ badge is available to order or collect along with the ‘Baby on Board’ badge, and is specifically designed for those expecting twins, triplets, or other multiple births. By introducing this badge, TfL says it hopes to “represent the range of mums-to-be who travel on London’s transport network, and to remind all its customers of the importance of looking up when they travel and to offer their seat to those who may need it more.”

The ‘Baby on Board’ badge was first introduced  in March 2006 after research from a ‘Mind the Bump’ study which showed that “pregnant customers were made to stand for an average of five stops before being offered a seat, and 35 per were never offered a seat,” according to TfL. Following a successful trial in the summer of 2005, the badge was introduced to offer support to those who may feel awkward asking others to give up their seat.

TfL says it is also expanding its partnership with John Lewis which has been ongoing since 2024. Customers who are expecting a baby can pick up either badge and leaflets at John Lewis stores in London following an All Things Baby appointment.

It will shortly be announcing a third partnership with UNIQLO which will include both the ‘Baby on Board’ and ‘Babies on Board’ badges as an embroidery element through its in-store demand service, RE.UNIQLO Studio. This can be applied to a wide range of products from the retailer, including bags, jackets, t-shirts and knitwear, at several London stores.
