Soft play area at Putney Leisure Centre launches 5th December

Wandsworth families are invited to celebrate the launch of the new soft play area at Putney Leisure Centre for toddlers under the age of five on Friday, 5th December, for a day of “festive fun, free activities, and a welcoming space designed for little ones to play, learn, and explore.”

The new soft play area has been created to provide a “safe, enriching and inclusive environment for children under five, encouraging creativity, movement and joy,” Wandsworth says. “Packed with sensory stations and imaginative play corners, it’s the perfect place for toddlers to climb, crawl and discover.”

The temporary installation, Wandsworth says, is only the beginning. A permanent soft play area for under-fives is in the plans for a summer 2026 launch, with families encouraged to share their feedback to help shape the final design. The project is part of Wandsworth Council’s  £24 million investment in improving leisure facilities in the borough. It also supports the borough’s Year of Play and the Wandsworth Moves Together strategy, aiming to make it easier for locals to “stay active and enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.”

The opening event will take place on Friday 5 December from 10am to 12.30pm. Head over to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a morning of festive fun which will include:

  • Free soft play sessions (these must be booked in advance)
  • Special guest appearance by Mrs Claus
  • Face painting and festive activities
  • Bouncy castle
  • Colouring competitions
  • Free refreshments

There will be no need to book unless you want to book a slot for one of the free soft play sessions, running from 12 noon to 6pm. Access for All members can enjoy free sessions.
