Secrets of the Thames exhibition at the London Museum

Discover “fascinating” objects as well as stories from the capital’s history at the Secrets of the Thames exhibition in the London Museum, the nation’s first major exhibition dedicated to mudlarking. There, you can learn more about the hidden world of the mudlarks.
Twice a day, the Thames dramatically recedes, exposing a landscape that is unknown to the majority of Londoners. Among the mud and stones, the tides uncover remarkable objects from every era in the rich history of London.
Secrets of the Thames will feature over 350 mudlarked objects, including intimate personal items and historical relics. Many of these will be on display for the first time. Step into the footsteps of a mudlark, as you explore the foreshore and uncover artefacts.
The journey ends with a space for reflection on the mysteries of the moon and the tide it creates that allow mudlarking to be possible. You will leave with a powerful and contemplative memory of the time spent uncovering the Thames’ secrets.
Here, archaeology will blend with contemporary art and digital experiences, offering a fresh perspective on our capital and all of its people, both past and present.
Visit Secrets of the Thames and see what you will discover.
