Lady Mayor’s Show: first woman to hold the title leads City parade
The Lady Mayor’s Show will take over the Square Mile on Saturday 8 November as Dame Susan Langley makes history as the first office-holder to take the title Lady Mayor of the City of London.
Dame Susan, elected last month as the 697th Lord Mayor, will ride from Mansion House at 11am at the head of the three-mile procession. The Lady Mayor’s Show is expected to draw more than 350,000 people to the route, with live coverage on BBC One and online for millions more.

Read the articleTo mark the milestone, 697 women connected with the City will join the parade, reflecting Dame Susan’s number in the line of Lord Mayors. They will appear alongside livery companies, charities, schools, community groups, performers and military bands.
The show is billed as the world’s oldest civic pageant. Organisers expect more than 7,000 participants, 250 horses and over 50 decorated floats.
“To lead the first ever Lady Mayor’s Show is an extraordinary honour,” Dame Susan said. “It celebrates long traditions while putting the spotlight on the good causes the City supports. I want to strengthen London’s global leadership, support business growth and show the next generation the City is a great place to live and work.”
What to watch for
- Sir Malcolm Campbell’s Bluebird hydroplane, with daughter Gina Campbell present, and a new march composed for the craft.
- Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment in state coats, continuing a 350-year tradition.
- Crystal Coach with members of the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers.
- A horse-drawn bus of Dames representing the Dames Commander Society.
- Pearly Kings and Queens, a nod to Dame Susan’s East End roots.
- Guildhall School students forming a drum and bass marching band.
- West Ham United Foundation participants.
- A full-size aircraft positioned outside Mansion House by Mission Aviation Foundation.
The Lady Mayor’s Show will be Dame Susan’s first public engagement. From 7 November she serves a one-year term as head of the City of London Corporation. Her role includes acting as a global ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services sector and promoting the UK as a destination for investment.
