Harbouring the Sound of Christmas: Jazz at St Katharine Docks
St Katharine Docks will once again lend its marina to Christmas Jazz at St Katharine Docks, a short December series that turns the floating pontoon into one of London’s most atmospheric seasonal stages. The setting, ringed by moored yachts and framed by the quiet sweep of the historic basin, has become a discreet favourite among those seeking festive music away from the usual noise of the city.
This year’s performances are led by vocalist Olivia Swann, whose warm tone and unfussy delivery have earned her a growing following. The singer said she was delighted to bring “a touch of midwinter calm” to the dockside, adding that the marina “already feels like a ready-made theatre, only with a roof of stars”. She will be joined by a small ensemble of musicians for a programme that blends seasonal standards with jazz classics.

Two dates have been announced. The first, on Sunday 14 December, is an early afternoon performance aimed at families and those looking for a quieter weekend outing. The second, on Thursday 18 December, offers an evening set designed for anyone wanting a more grown-up pre-Christmas occasion. Both events include complimentary mulled wine and blankets, a tradition that has helped shape the dockside’s reputation for intimate winter gatherings.
The floating pontoon has become an increasingly prominent part of the estate’s cultural calendar. Sound carries particularly well across the water, giving the space its informal reputation as a natural amphitheatre. St Katharine Docks now attracts millions of visitors each year and continues to build a programme of seasonal events ranging from the Classic Boat Festival to its outdoor markets. Its appeal lies partly in its position, within sight of Tower Bridge yet quietly separate from it.
Tickets are limited due to the nature of the venue. With only a small number of seats available, audiences are brought unusually close to the performance, a rarity in London at this time of year. Early booking is strongly recommended.
Information about the marina and its year-round events can be found on the official website at
St Katharine Docks Marina’s official page.
