Chris Hemsworth pushes science and self-discovery further in season two of Limitless

Chris Hemsworth Limitless explores how to live better in its second season, with the actor pushing himself beyond the physical challenges of the first series to take on deeper personal tests. Instead of wielding Thor’s hammer, Hemsworth embraces a different kind of strength – one rooted in science, introspection and the willingness to face fears that most of us would rather avoid.
“The first season almost killed me,” he admits. After free diving, fasting, walking a crane 900 feet above the ground and testing every limit he had, Hemsworth had promised himself he was done. But curiosity won. “I had more questions than answers,” he says, and that hunger to keep learning brought him back.
This time, the challenges go further. Season two follows Hemsworth not only as he pushes his body but also as he tests his mind and spirit. With help from Ed Sheeran, he learns to play a musical instrument for the first time. Inspired by his children’s carefree nature, he climbs a 600-foot Alpine dam, confronting fear in ways that are both raw and relatable.
“Being thrust into unfamiliar environments where you’re facing adversity or risk helps you understand how fragile life is and how quickly it can change,”
he explains.
The series also has a personal weight. During season one, a genetic test revealed that Hemsworth carries two copies of the gene ApoE4, significantly increasing his risk of Alzheimer’s. Instead of retreating, he used the knowledge as fuel. “That warning sign was further motivation to take care of myself,” he says. It also became an opportunity to help others understand a condition that affects millions, with organisations such as Alzheimer’s Society offering crucial resources and education for those navigating its impact.
Hemsworth also uses Limitless to question the growing world of biohacking – from cutting-edge research to the extreme routines of tech entrepreneurs. While figures such as Bryan Johnson have spent fortunes trying to reverse ageing, Hemsworth sees it differently. “You want to live a longer and better life, but at what cost? You could have your exact routine, but there’s no point if you’re isolated and lonely,” he says. Instead, his approach is to balance science with connection: “I’m going to put energy into health and wellness, but I also want to enjoy life.”
That balance gives Limitless its emotional centre. Hemsworth’s view that death, far from being something to fear, is a reason to live fully, adds depth. “If you were told you had 200 years guaranteed you’d become more complacent,” he says. “The idea that life can be taken away at any second is a beautiful reminder to appreciate every moment.”
For Hemsworth, that appreciation starts at home. Living in Byron Bay with his wife, actress Elsa Pataky, and their three children, he says that the series has been as much about his family as it has about himself. The feedback from viewers, from children to grandparents, has been one of the reasons he returned for a second season.
“It made me realise the impact it was having,”
he says.
Hemsworth shows us that it isn’t just about science or physical feats; it’s about what happens when curiosity and courage meet. As Hemsworth reflects on his journey, he admits he is still searching for answers but values what the experience has already given him: “This reminds me of what I’m offering up and what I’m receiving,” he says. “We don’t survive and thrive on our own.”
Thor will return in Avengers: Doomsday in 2026, but for now Hemsworth’s focus is clear. He’s inviting viewers not just to watch but to take part in their own lives differently. National Geographic’s Limitless: Live Better Now is available to stream on Disney+ from 15th August, and it’s a series worth watching if you’ve ever wondered how far you could go to live better.
