Autumn nights safe celebrations

As autumn arrives with events such as Diwali, Halloween, and Bonfire Night bring the capital to life, Westminster council is calling on all to “make this season safe and enjoyable for everyone.” Keeping residents safe, it says, is the “top priority” and to that end it is working closely with the London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police to “prevent the misuse of fireworks and reduce risks in our communities.”
“Together,” it said, “we can make every neighbourhood feel safe, cared for, and proud.” To enjoy the season responsibly it is offering some advice to “celebrate and respect others,” and “look out for your neighbours and your community.” “Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated,” it said, “everyone has a role to play in keeping Westminster peaceful.”
Here are some top safety tips to stay safe this autumn:
- Never store fireworks in your home or in communal spaces
- Never set off fireworks in public places or within 15 metres of a road
- Never have bonfires in your home or on the estate
- Anyone under 18 must not possess fireworks in a public place
- Remove personal items from communal areas and balconies that could be used to start fires
