Survival manual to be issued to French households
France’s government has revealed plans to send a “survival manual” to every household, giving advice on what to do during an armed conflict, natural disaster, or health crisis. The 20 page document is divided into three parts, Europe 1 radio reported, with the first being to protect “yourself and those around you.”
Items people should prepare as part of a “survival kit” it said should include at least six litres of bottled water, 10 cans of foods, batteries, a flashlight, medical supplies such as paracetamol, compresses, and saline solution.
The next part of the survival manual discusses what actions to take in the event of an imminent threat, listing emergency numbers, and the steps to take depending on what type of crisis could occur. One part of it recommends that all doors should be closed in the event of a nuclear accident.
The final section gives details on how to “get involved” to defend one’s community. This includes signing up for reserve units or firefighter groups.
If the French Prime Minster Francois Bayrou accepts it, a survival manual will be issued to every household in France by the summer. But sources in the government, according to Sky News, said that it is “not at all focused on the possibility of armed conflict.”
Tee timing of the manual’s release, according to French newspaper Le Figaro, “could easily suggest that the state is reacting to the unstable international situation.”
