Summer Reading Challenge brought over 3,000 children to libraries

Richmond’s Summer Reading Challenge: Story Garden saw 3,172 children visiting the borough’s libraries, an increase of 156 compared with last summer. This, the council said in a press release, “reflects the enthusiasm and commitment of our young readers, who embraced the challenge with imagination, curiosity, and determination.”
Every library in the borough saw a “notable rise in activity” with Twickenham Library being the most with 624 sign-ups, making it the busiest branch in the borough for the Summer Reading Challenge.
“This summer wasn’t just about books,” the press release said, “it was about bringing stories to life.” Three free Lego sessions were hosted for families, “and they were a massive hit.” Both children and parents alike “got stuck in, building everything from dragons to dream houses, inspired by the tales they were reading.”
“The Summer Reading Challenge may be over,” it said, “but the story continues.” Find out about our young readers’ success over the summer, and what’s coming this autumn.
With the school term underway, Richmond Reads is in full swing, encouraging readers of all ages to keep exploring new books and sharing their favourites as the weather cools down.
There will also continue to be an exciting line-up of story time sessions, game clubs and more for children and teens.
