Prince William reflects on Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in Windsor Castle interview

Prince William has spoken about how much he misses Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, recalling their presence at Windsor Castle during a new interview with actor Eugene Levy.

The Prince of Wales shared personal reflections while filming an episode of The Reluctant Traveller around the royal estate.

Looking out across the countryside from one of the castle windows, William said: “I do actually, yeah, I do miss my grandmother, and my grandfather. It’s been quite a bit of change, so you do sort of think about them not being here any more. For me Windsor is her.”

Remembering Windsor

William described Windsor as a place deeply connected to his late grandmother. “She loved it here, she spent most of her time here. Showing you around today is very much a case of trying to make sure I’m doing it in the way she’d want you to see it. She had her horses here as well — as you can imagine that was a big deal for her — so that’s why she loved it here.”

Levy, best known for Schitt’s Creek, asked directly if the prince missed the Queen, prompting William’s candid response.

Personal challenges

In the same programme, William also reflected on how 2024 had been particularly difficult, with both the King and the Princess of Wales diagnosed with cancer. “I’d say 2024 was the hardest year I’ve ever had,” he said. “Life is said to test us as well, and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are.”

The programme

The interview forms part of Apple TV+’s series The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy. The episode, titled Living the Royal Life in the UK, will premiere on 3 October, with new episodes running weekly until the series finale on 31 October.
