Hounslow to Hendon Overground planned
Proposals for a new Overground line that will link Hounslow to Hendon have moved forward, the BBC reported, after mayor Sadiq Khan has confirmed “feasible solutions” for every aspect of the plan. The next phase for the West London Orbital scheme will include design work.
In 2021, TfL estimated the project to cost a total of between £430 million and £610 million. It hopes to see the line entering service by the early 2030s.
In response to Gareth Roberts, a Liberal Democrat on the London Assembly, Khan gave an update on the scheme.
“The current stage of development is now nearing completion,” he said. “To deliver the scheme, funding would be needed from local sources and national Government as well as TfL and Greater London Authority.”
The West London Orbital, he added, was one of his priorities to expand the capital’s transport network. The planed route would start in Hounslow and follow the existing South Western Railway course, going through Isleworth, Syon Lane, and Brentford, before ending in Harlesden and Neasden. It could potentially split into two directions, one to Hendon via Brent Cross, and another to West Hampstead via Cricklewood.
