Volvo has unveiled the EX30 Cross Country, a rugged four-wheel drive version of its all-electric compact SUV, with a range of 427km (266 miles) and a charge time of just 26 minutes from 10-80%. The new Cross Country version includes a number of extra features to give the little car more capability.
The ride height has been raised compared to the standard car and the option of an 18-inch all-terrain accessory tyre hopes to make it better at navigating rough terrain. Power now goes to all four wheels which should help it on slippery conditions that anyone who has ventured out of a city knows all too well.
The exterior styling has also been revised with a special dark colour on the boot lid and front end. The front even features a “unique piece of artwork” that shows off topography of the Kebnekaise mountain range in the Arctic region of Sweden. Volvo says that it has been in inspiration for many of its designers. Chunky front and rear skidplates as well as wheelarch extensions complete the more rugged look and underline that this car is “ready to get out into the wild.”
Inside, the EX30 Cross Country comes with clever tech and storage as well as its unique design. The speakers have been relocated and incorporated into a soundbar on the dash, allowing for larger storage compartments in the doors.
The EX30 Cross Country will go into production later this year. Prices have yet to be announced but expect it to be a little more than the approximately £31,000 for the cheapest version of the EX30.
