Discount eligible EVs revealed

The first electric vehicles (EVs) eligible for the £3,750 discount under the government scheme have been announced. The Department for Transport has confirmed that The Ford Puma Gen-E, as well as its e-Tourneo Courier van would be discounted as part of the government’s plans to incentivise greener vehicles.
The discount applies to new eligible cars that cost no more than £37,000, with the greenest EVs seeing the biggest reductions. An additional 26 models will be given discounts of £1,500. Car makers need to apply for their models to be eligible, with the discount being applied at the time it is sold. The grant will be funded through a £650 million scheme and be available for three years. The cars that are most sustainably built will stand a better chance of their models being eligible for the discount.
More vehicles are awaiting approval over the coming weeks with the DfT saying that the policy will bring the price of EVs down to “closely match their petrol and diesel counterparts.” The government has pledged to ban the sale of brand-new fully petrol or diesel cars from 2030. But for many drivers, the upfront cost is a key barrier to an EV, while some are calling for more charging points.
The list of cars eligible include a raft of Citroen, Cupra, DS, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Vauxhall, and Volkswagen models. More vehicles are set to join in the near future.
