Cycleway 34 and 9 approved by LBHF

Two new cycleway routes in Hammersmith & Fulham have gained the backing of the council. Cycleway 34 in Shepherds Bush and Cycleway 9 in Hammersmith with funding from TfL.

“These schemes demonstrate our clear commitment to making cycling and walking safer, while also meeting our ambitious targets to tackle climate change,” Cllr Florian Chevoppe-Verdier, H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said. “ ‘ve made clear to TfL that H&F wants to see progress on both schemes – which we have worked on in tandem with the Cycling and Walking Residents’ Commissions.”

The Shepherds Bush cycleway will extend from Du Cane Road, down Wood Lane, to Shepherds Bush Green and across the Holland Park roundabout, and will be funded by TfL. Final design work on the Hammersmith Broadway to Olympia route will also be funded by TfL.

This follows a full consultation with local residents and businesses for the routes by TfL who, according to Hammersmith & Fulham Council, “have continued to engage with local communities around both locations.”

The council says it is “committed to meeting the ambitious World Health Organization targets for air quality by 2030.” Part of its work to that end is to encourage more people to walk, ride, or use public transport, adding that this would “speed up traffic flows for motorists and reduce emissions.”

“It’s great to see these vital improvements progressing as we continue working to make it safer and easier for people to cycle in London,” London’s walking and cycling commissioner Will Norman said. “This cycling infrastructure will support sustainable travel across Hammersmith, Shepherds Bush and beyond, reducing congestion and improving air quality for local residents.”
