Seven HWM Edition unveiled by Caterham

Caterham and dealer HWM have released a new limited-edition model, the Seven HWM Edition, inspired by the “legendary” 1951 HWM-Alta grand prix car. (Hersham and Walton Motors) was founded in 1938 and was the first British team to score a victory at a post-war Grand Prix.

The 1951 HWM-Alta, that achieved seven wins, seven second place finishes, and ten thirds at international events helped cement its legacy, thanks in no small part to drivers such as the legendary Stirling Moss.

Only 19 Caterham Seven HWM Edition will be made, available to UK customers from £57,990. Each car will be finished in HWM Green as standard, with the colour being scanned from the 1951 HWM-Alta race car. The side panel louvres, bespoke nosecone grille, suspension wishbones, anti-roll bar, and headlight brackets in Retro Grey, are among the other nods to the old car.

The homage continues in the interior of the Seven HWM Edition, with the SuperSprint dashboard including a hand-turned aluminium design, complete with SMITHS chrome dials, and a polished wooden quick-release Moto-Lita steering wheel. The gear knob and handbrake are finished in chrome and are set out on a body-coloured transmission tunnel top. Each car will come with a “1 of 19” plaque on the passenger side of the dashboard.

The Seven HWM Edition is based on the Caterham Seven 420 which is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that makes 210 bhp at 7,600 rpm. Thanks to a five-speed manual gearbox, it can sprint to 60 mph from rest in just 3.8 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 136 mph.
