Shoreditch to Host Europe’s First SXSW in June 2025

The highly anticipated SXSW London is set to debut from 2nd to 7th June 2025, spreading its famous events across at least 20 venues in Shoreditch, East London. This marks the first European edition of the renowned Austin festival, which has also expanded to Sydney, Australia. Organisers are expecting to draw in around 20,000 attendees, offering a rich blend of tech, music, screen, and arts programming.

UK artists are being encouraged to submit their ideas and works for consideration via a platform launching this autumn. In addition to the main event, organisers are planning a skills development programme to follow.

The festival has recently welcomed several new senior team members. Anna Bogutskaya steps in as Head of Screen, bringing her experience from the BFI, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, El Deseo, and Underwire Festival. Joining her is Beth Greenacre as Visual Arts Advisor, noted for her role as curator of the David Bowie collection and her co-curation of numerous exhibitions, including Sound and Vision during Bowie’s Meltdown at the Royal Festival Hall in 2002.

Clare Morris, previously the marketing lead for the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, will take on the role of Director of Marketing and Communications for SXSW London starting in September.

Randel Bryan, Managing Director of SXSW London, shared his excitement: “With a shorter format compared to SXSW in Austin, SXSW London will simultaneously host its conference, music, screen, and arts programmes. This will ensure accessibility to various programming formats and provide diverse networking opportunities for attendees from different industries. Bringing SXSW to Shoreditch allows us to create a festival like no other, utilising incredible indoor spaces and showcasing creativity in unique public spaces, capturing the energy and excitement of the summer.”

EyeOnLondon readers can look forward to a festival that promises to be a dynamic and unique addition to the cultural calendar, right in the heart of East London.
